Thanks to Boxgreen for sending over a press kit that included snacks in multiple flavours, as well as tea that smells so good I was a little pleasantly surprised.
Most importantly, I decided to write this post because the snacks and tea are packed by inmates in the Changi Prison, as part of the Yellow Ribbon Project.
I like the Corporate Social Responsibility aspect of this and hope such opportunities can enhance the inmates’ skills and employability in future, and help keep them in the right path.
Now, let me share with you more in details about the snacks and tea I’ve received, so that you can decide if this is something you like to get for yourself, your friends or your colleagues.
Plant-based snacks from Boxgreen
Boxgreen is known for their plant-based snacks that are free from artificial flavors and colours. I like the mini packs as it ensures that I don’t over indulge.
Ya know, I’m the kind when I open a pack of snacks, I can’t stop till all is gone. So mini pack is always a healthier option for me to help me control my mouth when I couldn’t do so myself. LOL!
But I know – single-pack is not that earth-friendly lah. So if you have a good diet discipline, you can go for the full-sized pack that are also available on Boxgreen’s website.
Multiple Flavors to choose from
The snacks I received vary not just in flavor, but also in weight. Depending on the flavor, it can range between 15g to 30g (lightest was the mushroom).
The calories differed too and I like how the calories is written clearly on each pack.
It seems to me that the lightest and most healthy snack is the Umami Shitake Mushroom Chips. You can really see the whole shitake mushrooms that were vacuum-fried.
Unfortunately, this is not my favourite, but I do like the others, such as Coffee Almond Biscotti and Sriracha Multigrain Crackers. That’s just my preference for savory stuff.
It’s also a good surprise to see some nuts among the crackers, such as cashew nuts, edamame and peanuts.Â
Is Boxgreen snacks Halal?Â
Now, in case you wonder, not all of the snacks are halal – but many are and the halal logo can be found on the packaging.
If you are looking for halal snacks, you should be able to enquire which are halal and which aren’t. Perhaps, Boxgreen can consider indicating halal-certification on the product page.Â
Who I think the Boxgreen snack is good for?Â
The first thing that came to my mind was how suitable the snacks would be in an office pantry. Or included as part of staff benefits in which companies distribute healthy snacks to employees.
The packaging of the snacks is presentable and the single-served munchies makes it easy and hygienic to distribute and consume.
Boxgreen snacks may also come handy in a private party or gathering. Of course, there are cheaper snack options in the supermarkets. But if you like something unique that can create conversations, then Boxgreen mini-packs is definitely worth considering.Â
Next, let’s move on to the tea.Â
Lovely Tea from Boxgreen
To be honest, I was surprised that the tea from Boxgreen smells so good (esp the Lychee) and the flavours were pretty unique. Definitely a gourmet tea based on first impression.Â
I’ve received 4 types of tea, namely Lychee Green, Honey Pear Pu Erh, Caramel Hojicha and Osmanthus Oolong. I’ve tried all of them and enjoyed all especially Honey Pear Pu Erh and Osmanthus Oolong.Â
When you first take out the teabag from the box, it may appear that there’s very little tea leaves within the sachet. Let it sip in hot water for a while and you’ll get a sachet full of blown-up tea leaves.Â
Only one comment – the string attached to the teabag was quite short. So it can only fit into a teacup, not a tall mug. Nevertheless, you always have the option to cut off the tag and dip the teabag into cups of any height.Â
Boxgreen also shared that the packaging is made from biodegradable and renewable material, and the pyramid tea bags are made from 100% non-GMO sugarcane.
No wonder, I found some loose tea leaves in my mouth when I let the teabag sipped in my thermal flask overnight.Â
Should you give Boxgreen Tea a try?Â
Each box comes with 6 teabags and cost about $9. So, it’s definitely not a cheap tea and may be priced in bands similar to gourmet tea such as Gryphon and TWG, on a per unit basis.Â
I thought it looks cute and would work well as gifts, such as Christmas presents. I know I would be happy to receive something like this as gifts.

So which tea flavor do you like to try – which seems more unique in your opinion?Â
