Part 3 Hainan Travel: Wuzhizhou Island & Coconut Dream Corridor

Great! We’ve come to part 3 of our Hainan travel. You’ll see us visiting the popular Wuzhizhou Island, also known as “The Maldive” of China. We’ll also take nice photos at Coconut Dream Corridor as well as visit two night markets in Hainan.

For a better story flow, check out these posts first before continuing the Hainan relaxing trip from Day 7.

Day 7: Wuzhizhou Island & Night Markets in Hainan

We enjoyed a relaxing breakfast at the lovely Sanya Central Coast Sea View Hotel. While food standard was average, the option was pretty good as compared to local standard.

I appreciate the variety and could choose a different “cuisine” each day to avoid menu fatigue. Today, I went for western spread! While my stomach still experienced some pain, the discomfort had eased, with fewer and milder bouts of pain.

We were still pondering if we should head to Wuzhizhou island (蜈支洲), as it’s said to be very touristy, crowded and expensive. After lazing till 10am, we finally decided to “just do it” and DiDi to Wuzhizhou pier (蜈支洲岛码头).

Wuzhizhou Island (Hainan Travel)

A bundle ticket that we bought online made it a breeze to get to the island, located at eastern part of Sanya. We’d purchased one that included ferry, admission and island shuttle service and weren’t disappointed because Wuzhizhou Island was so beautiful.

In fact, I’ve dedicated a post just for Wuzhizhou Island – coming up next.

CHINA ATTRACTION TIPS: Many attractions in China require advance ticket purchases – sometimes a few hours or a day ahead – so do take note.

A second tip – some attraction tickets have easy cancellation policy. For example, we could purchase the Wuzhizhou Island tickets before arriving in Hainan, even though we weren’t sure we’d visit as they were fully refundable if unused (as at time of writing).

Hou Hai Night Market

By 5.30pm, we were done with the island tour and back on Hainan main land, heading towards Hou Hai Night Market (后海夜市).

This food street near the pier wasn’t vibrant, and we didn’t appreciate how the restaurants were aggressively touting for business. Not liking the ambiance, we took DiDi to another nearby night market in Hainan.

Lin Wang Night Market

Lin Wang Night Market (林旺夜市广场) seemed more localised, offering spacious seating area and resembling more of a hawker than a typical night market.

Food variety was not as extensive as No. 1 Night Market (第1市场夜市), but diners got to eat in a cleaner and more comfortable environment.

See some of our orders – Fried Bee Hoon (¥14), Oyster Omelette (¥28), Mutton and Beef Skewers (¥60 for 4), and the refreshing Qing Bu Liang dessert (¥13).

What’s unique about this Qing Bu Liang dessert from stall 101 (101号壹家纯椰奶清补凉) was the rice dumplings added, on top of other common toppings. It was filling!

Bath Tub Soaking Session

We returned early and ended the day with a bath soaking session at our hotel’s spacious balcony, enjoying mocktail and snacks.

Day 8: Sanya Bay & Coconut Dream Corridor

Today was a “free day” for us, with no fixed itinerary. We’d intentionally skipped several popular tourist spots to ensure our beach holiday remained relaxing as planned.

Popular Hainan Attractions: Many tourists would also visit these spots in Sanya – we would keep them for the next trip.

Idling in the lovely and spacious hotel room, we finally decided to do something around noon.

The first place we popped by was Sanya Joy City (三亚大悦城) – it was a large shopping mall offering international brands and plenty of dining options.

This was the man’s lunch – I was still full from the hotel breakfast!

After lunch, we did some shopping and further idled at Naixue tea outlet. By evening and when the heat eased, we “DiDi” to a place known for rows and rows of coconut trees.

Coconut Dream Corridor: Lots of photo spots!

Coconut Dream Corridor (椰梦长廊) is a 22km-long stretch of road that runs parallel to Sanya Bay and characterised by rows of coconut trees.

You can alight at different spots along this long corridor. For us, we alighted at a spot that offered photo props (三亚湾婚纱摄影基地).

Hainan Coconut Dream Corridor

There was a signage indicating that the props were prioritised for wedding shoots, though we spotted “fake” wedding couples being prioritised (e.g. young couples who looked like students in flimsy-looking wedding costumes to get their romantic photoshoot).

How cute!

TIP: The photo props area was locked up by 6pm during time of our visit. So don’t be there too late!

Sunset at Sanya Bay (Hainan Travel)

We strolled along Sanya Bay (三亚湾), checking out the vibrant beach atmosphere. This is where you can get your adrenaline up by participating in thrilling water activities.

TIP: Check out activities available at Sanya Bay and corresponding prices.

For us, we were just happy to relax and catch a lovely sunset by the beach at around 6.40pm (in May).

TIP: Do google and check sunset hour during the month of your visit.

Vinegar Noodle for Dinner (Hainan Travel)

Loving vinegar noodle – a local dish in Hainan, we revisited Feng Ji Vinegar eatery (冯记铺前糟粕醋)  again, as it was good (yes, the one with the loud owner/workers).

Hainan recommended food
Hainan Vinegar noodle again – we love it!

This time around, confident of the good taste, we each topped up more ingredients to the noodle, such as fish and lobster balls (¥25). It was a good dinner!

After dinner, I rushed to Guo Yao Duty Free Shop (国药中服免税) just 30 minutes before its closing to shop for duty free cosmetics. But the place was small and carried limited stock variety – I left empty-handed.

TIP: If you really like to buy duty free cosmetics in Hainan, CDF is still the best place offering great price and variety. However, you’ll need to depart from certain airports and train station (Haikou Meilan Airport is not one of them). More details in this post)

That’s all to Part 3 of our Hainan Travelogue. Coming up next is a dedicated post for Wuzhizhou Island plus the final post of this series – Part 4 – that will show what we did in Haikou. Stay tuned!
