Maybelline Fashion Brow Pomade Crayon makes Great Gift for Thick Brow Lovers

Most of my recent purchases of Maybelline products weren’t up to mark except for this product that I’m going to review now – Maybelline Fashion Brow Pomade Crayon.  This brow crayon glides on smoothly and the crayon tip is thick enough to make filling of thick brows quick and easy.

Is this suitable for you? Read on to find out the goods and bads of Maybelline Fashion Brow Pomade Crayon.

About Maybelline Fashion Brow Pomade Crayon

Maybelline Fashion Brow Pomade Crayon comes in the form of a chubby twist-able stick that looks more like a lipstick than a typical brow pencil. There are four colours to choose from, all of which belongs to the brown family. The colours are named after coffee such as Mocha, Cappuccino, Caramel Latte and Expresso*.

*They may be named differently in different geographical markets.

I apologize that the photo above isn’t that aesthetically pleasing. I was also surprised to see the label paint coming off after just a few weeks of irregular use. This mediocre print-job doesn’t affect application or function, but I think Maybelline should do better to stay competitive against lower-priced brands such as Innisfree or Etude House that’s always impeccably packaged.

What’s Good about Maybelline Fashion Brow Pomade Crayon?

1. Smooth as Butter

Maybelline Fashion Brow Pomade Crayon glides on so smoothly it was such a breeze getting it to work. Makeup beginners should be able to benefit from its ease of application.

2. Wearable & Natural-looking Colours

I remember how I was at Watsons swatching two colors – Mocha (BR-2) and Cappuccino (BR-3) – and couldn’t decide which one to get. Both colors were so natural and lovely. In the end, I bought the darker shade, i.e. Mocha.

Unlike other colors, Mocha is a neutral brown and doesn’t lean towards red or yellow undertones.

Although this thick and dark tube looks quite menacing, the color went on gently without depositing any harsh pigment. The darker shade that I chose ended up looking quite light and natural.

3. It Tames…NOT. Thank, God!

Unlike a pencil, a brow crayon typically has an additional feature of being able to tame brows. This means they are waxy enough to glue strayed brows together to get them into shape. Fortunately (for me), Maybelline Fashion Brow Pomade Crayon didn’t quite work in this aspect as I’ve always hated the feeling of having glued brows. Just read this review on how much I detested Benefit’s Instant Brow Pencil.

If you are looking for a gluey brow crayon, you would probably have to look elsewhere.

4. Quick and Easy to Apply

Maybelline Fashion Brow Pomade Crayon is good news for thick-brow lovers. As the tip is blunt, one sweep can deposit pigment to cover a wider area than a pencil could. That’s the main reason why I fell in love with Maybelline Fashion Brow Pomade Crayon.

Filling up thick brows now takes half the time.

5. Great Value

Maybelline Fashion Brow Pomade Crayon comes with 1.5g of crayon, while other brow products typically give you less than 0.5g.

Not only that, it is also reasonably-priced on Amazon, at less than S$10. Unfortunately, this is gonna cost 70% more if you shop in Singapore ($16.90).

What’s Bad?

1. Where’s the Spoolie brush?

Although Maybelline Fashion Brow Pomade Crayon glides on easily, a spoolie is still required to even out the strokes. The absence of a spoolie took away one star from this rating. Yes, that’s right. This could have been a 5/5 star rating.

That one star is to compensate me for borrowing the spoolie of my holy grail brow pencil.

2. Stay away, Defined Brows Lovers!

With a fat blunt tip, it should be within expectation that Maybelline Fashion Brow Pomade Crayon wouldn’t be able to achieve a defined-brow look. That’s perfect for me since I’ve always been a lover of sheer and natural makeup.  For those who loves precision in makeup, a pencil would do better!

3. Rubs off Easily

Maybelline Fashion Brow Pomade Crayon gets rubbed off more easily than my other brow pencils. Not exactly an issue for me as I do not have a habit of touching my brows when makeup is on. In case you do, then Maybelline is definitely not going to last the whole day for you.

The good news is that once the crayon has set, even vigorous rubbing wouldn’t get rid of 100% of the color. There would be a stain left on the skin, albeit a very light one, probably just 20% of the initial intensity. So, try as much as possible not to touch your brows or makeup in general, okay?

Do you own a pair of thick brows? Are you looking for a product that can add a natural brown tint to your brows quickly and easily? If the answers are ‘yes’, Maybelline Fashion Brow Pomade Crayon would suit you fine. In fact, this gently-pigmented brow crayon would be a great starting tool for makeup beginners. Rating: 4/5.
