Isn’t it amazing that an over-the-counter beauty product such as a hydrating mask can cause one sleepless night? I thought so too. But, Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Overnight Hydrating Masque does that to me all the time without exceptions.
There is a reason why Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Overnight Hydrating Masque was banished into the forgotten corner.
I strongly remembered the reasons, but had to give it another chance by digging it out and trying it again yesterday night. So here I am, typing this review in a zombie-state as I had a really disruptive night. Sigh!
How to Apply Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Overnight Hydrating Masque?
We are supposed to apply a layer of this masque on our cleansed face at night, just before bedtime.
Then, wipe off the excess with a tissue after 10 minutes, leaving some to replenish skin’s moisture throughout the night. It is said to boost skin’s ability to absorb and hold moisture, leaving the skin smoother and softer, refreshed and supple.
Now, here’s my experience. Once I put this on, I felt a stinging sensation that’s more intense than my medium-depth chemical peel.
Sting Level: 3/10
I didn’t mind the stinging as I thought that meant it would work. The sensation lasted for about 10 minutes and my face felt warm and flushed after that. Remembering my previous discomfort with the masque, I wiped off as much of the excess as I could with a tissue. And off I went to bed.
Why is this Kiehl’s Masque a Sleep-Killer?
Even though I had tissued off the masque, the thin left-over layer was sticky to the feel. You can literally press your finger against your face and see your skin stick to your finger for a fraction of a second or so.
Being a side sleeper, this means that I had to change my sleeping position to a face-up position. Otherwise, the masque would dirty my pillow (or my face may be glued to it by the morning….err…I’m exaggerating now).
After struggling for a while, I realized I rather revert to my side-sleeping position and have my face stuck to the pillow. Even then, I couldn’t sleep well and was drifting in and out of sleep. The sticky discomfort was just too intense, even for a half-asleep person who should have lost half of her awareness?
At 5am, I couldn’t take it anymore. I got up and washed the gooey thing off my face. Once again, it has proven why it deserved to be abandoned. I will never put this on my face again. Another poor investment made!
Any Results?
After going through great inconvenience, such as not being able to sleep, I was hoping to see some results. Unfortunately, there is none. So this is really money down the drain. Rating: 2/5
