Majolica Majorca Lash King Mascara promises great length and thickness. Can she live up to her claims?
Unlimited length.
Ultra thickness. Unbelievable fullness.
~ Official Product Claim
Absolutely. Its’ thread-like fiber gives amazingly-long and thick lashes. Majolica Majorca Lash King Mascara excels in opening up your eyes and making them look way bigger than they really are. I really had wanted to love it, but unfortunately, I don’t. Read on to find out why.
Majolica Majorca is another drug-store brand from Shiseido that was introduced in Singapore many years ago. The packaging is pretty and leans towards girlish-elegance. Its jewel-like products should appeal to all princess-wannabe.
Targeted at young women, this probably explains why I was attracted, but never thought of buying its products until I landed in Japan a few months ago.
In a land scattered generously with a huge array of beauty brands and products, how can one resist a random buying spree?
My Love-Hate Relationship with Fiber Mascaras
Among the numerous beauty products I’d acquired in Japan, this is one of the least-favored and least used. Before I go on about the good and bad of Majolica Majorca Lash King Mascara, I thought it’s only right that I share with you about my past relationships with fiber mascaras.
Over the years, I’ve purchased quite a number of fiber mascaras. More often than not, I ended up abandoning them after a few applications, hardly justifying the investment.
Personally, I find such mascara to be less neat in application and appearance. So do take my review with a pinch of salt, if you have had no trouble of using fiber mascaras in the past.
What’s Good?
1. Exceptional Length
I don’t know if this sounds logical. Majolica Majorca Lash King Mascara is generously filled with fiber.
Every strand of lash gets extended by the fake fiber-thread. As such, your lashes literally grew and look longer.
2. Adds Volume
Majolica Majorca Lash King Mascara thickens your lashes well and gives you full-looking lashes.
It is great for the evening and could come in handy when you are too lazy for the falsies. With Lash King, it is absolutely reasonable to expect nothing less than a dramatic look.
If I recall correctly, this is the most dramatic mascaras among Majolica Majorca’s entire range. The mascaras are marked by a star-rating system indicating how they fare in their lengthening and thickening ability. Lash King scored high in all departments.
Lash King vs Benefit’s they’re Real!
Benefit’s they’re Real! Mascara constantly came to mind when I was working on this review.
To compare, Lash King gives more length while Benefit’s they’re Real mascara has a more intense black tone (and hence look more like falsies). Lash King is waterproof and they’re Real! is not. Sadly, both smudge rather quickly.
3. Bigger Eyes
You actually look prettier with Majolica Majorca’s Lash King, as your eyes are noticeably bigger.
4. Yes, It’s Waterproof
If you are looking for a waterproof mascara, this is it.
What’s Bad?
1. Messy Application
As with my general experience with fiber mascaras, I did not enjoy the application process. The stray fiber wicks on the brush stick out in all directions, making application a messy task.
Due to the same reason, Lash King did not perform well in coating and separating the lashes.
2. It Clumps
The lashes clumped together. To make things worse, the artificial fiber threads on the lashes stuck out in odd and different angles, making the lashes look a tad unnatural.
3. Sticky and Uncomfortable
The upper and lower lashes (especially the ones on the outer corners) would stick together or get entangled at times when you blink your eyes. This isn’t really the most comfortable experience since we, human beings do tend to blink a lot each day.
4. Smudges Easily (but Lightly)
What’s really disappointing is how fast it smudges. I’ve tested it a couple of times, and it would smudge on me really quickly, like within 30 minutes. Luckily, the degree of smudge is not as obvious as Benefit’s they’re Real! Mascara, and affects only the lower lash lines.
The Price
In Japan, Majolica Majorca Lash King Mascara retails for 1296 yen (incl. GST), which is approximately SGD14.50 or USD11. In Singapore, it retails for $25.90.
Recommendation
If you have been fine using fibre mascara all along, then Majolica Majorca Lash King may be what you need for a dramatic big-eye look. It does what it claims to do – thickens and lengthens. This is definitely a good tool for Asian girls, who are known to have short and straight lashes. I’ve also tested it positive for its waterproof ability. Rating: 3.5/5.
